Hallo all im Lucky from australia im new to here.

Ok this is all i want to do.

I want to be able to test maps and mods on my PC. I just want to know how to be able to run a single player game thing were only i can play on it and test mods and maps.

I have no clue how to do any of this or scripting a server cfg, but this is what i want to do. Test a MOD and have it play on 3 maps it was made for. IS there like a cfg i can download and someone just tell me what too change so the MOD play's and the maps to?
If there is no cfg file to help me. I will need someone to go threw it with me in a step by stpe prosses and dont use to complex words :P

I want to test the ETfortress mod and some of its maps.

Hi Lucky,
almost each mod download containing a valid server cfg.
To test a mod (not valid for etpro!!!) you can simply join a server runnig the mod, then all files will be donwloaded and placed in the right directory.
Go back to the main menue, choose the "MOD" section, load the mod you want to run, and use "HOST GAME" to start the hosted server (its within your game, not a dedicated process).
You should be able to select the map In the HOST GAME window.
Nevertheless you can take a look in the ETServerGuide http://wolffiles.de/index.php?ETServerGuide if you want to run a real dedicated server (for example etpro wouldn`t run as a hosted game, you need to use etded(.x86 or exe) instead of the ET executable.

Unfortunaly I never set up an ETFortress server, so I`m not familar with the cfg for this mod.
To get the mod, simply join one of the available ETF server from Splatterladder Server List (Show mod: etf -> GO)

You can also find a full installer with ET, ETF 1.6 and all current maps here. This installer have been added just a few days ago so it should contain a pretty up-2-date package.

Sorry schnoog but i havent found ETF in the wolffiles database. (<- add it ;)

Ok. SO i cose to do a quick test to see if it works. I loaded etpro mod, went to host game and stuff. Clicked start, after that it came up with this error here is a pic.


(sorry for the pic being real dark.)

In case you cant read it, It syas this.
"BG_indexforstring: Uknown token 'NOT' : (animations/scripts/human_base.script, line 3351"

After i clicked rcoonect a few times...no sussces.
Then i exited ET and re-opend ET and just started a normal server with no MOD just the normal ETMOD. That worked BUT i could not see any the skins of all the weapons and stuff? How do i fix this? Also how do i mkae it unpure server. IM new to all this.

You`re not able to Host ETPro within your game. ETPro needs to be startet as an dedicated server. Other mod would work, but unfortunaly not etpro. Place the skins and stuff within your mod folder to get it activated.

ok..so umm how do i get the standed skins? cause when i just start a server with the normal standed ET mod it still doesn't have the normal skins (the only weapons witch have no skin on them are the MP40, thompson, pistols, knife, sten and FG40. They are just coloured in black and orange squares)? Anyway to fix this?also im running a 2.60B patch.

*another edit* Ok i downloaded another weapon skin to see if that work..but no just black and ornage squares still.

*EDIT* Also what software do you use to change the look of some weapons? Cause i want to edit some skins on some weapons? and maby change the sounds.

Sorry new to this forum so im not quiet used to it yet and were to find the software.

If u see black and orange textures then the textures haven´t a shaderfile or the shaderfile does not work correctly.
Every textur needs such file.
This file contains informations about the textures (images paths (jpeg,tga) ) and the functions of these textures.
If u want to skinning then you need to understand shaderfiles.

All the necessery you will find in your "pak0.pk3".

scripts
models
weapons

Shaderfiles you can open with wordpad or notepad++


The weapon textures you´ll find under models/weapons2 and models/multiplayer.

These both folders (weapons2 and multiplayer) you´ll need to edit weapons skins.

But not all weapons have a texture in his folder!!!


If you understand all of that then you can use Gimp or Photoshop <- if you have to edit skins or textures.

ok. im new to shadeding..and that complex stuff.
but how do i get the standed weapons skin to work when i host a server? and how do i open a pak0.pk file to edit (etc) I think i would need to try and catch up with a pro person to run me thoughh it all :P.

Take a look in your modfolders (etmain,etpro,nq,jaymod ...) and search for files like
zzz_anyname.pk3
z_anyname.pk3
~~~anyname.pk3.

Make a backup and copy these files (if you have) out of the Enemy Territory folder and delete these files from your modfolder.

If you play noquarter maybe you will find a file calls "z_adds.pk3" DON´T delete this!!!
This file is needed by nq.

If this not work deinstall your Enemy Territory delete the complete Enemy Territory folder (don´t forget to save your etkey) and reinstall it.

I thing you have a custom pk3 file in any of your modfolders wich is replacing some standard textures of your weapons.



"how do i open a pak0.pk3?"

pk3 is a simple zipfile.

Make a backup of pak0.pk3 and copy it anywhere out of your Enemy Territory.

You can rename pak0.pk3 to pak0.zip

Or you can open it with Winrar.

If you want to edit some files out of pak0.pk3 use the copied file and extract the folders wich you need.

Good news :D
I fixed the weapon skin problem when i hosted a server AND manged to excstract all the files form the pak0.pk file :D
but i have no clue how to open the weap files and other named files witch i've never seen before. All i want to be able to do know is to edit the thompson/MP40 gun, Its a simple edit all i want is it to have -*DBD*- written on the guns to see? So what software do i use to edit the weap and other things? like the helmat? Then how do i save the file to a PK.3 file so it like a mini-mod? (not doing helmet anymore as i said in earler post)

For jpg/tga, only TGA supports alpha channel (Can see through texture ingame). And the height/width just need to be a power of 2, you can make a texture or 512x256 for exemple. I have a thumbnail program so I can see them directly in Windows, but I mainly browse my textures with Picasa, listed my whole textures folder, so I can easily find the texture I want :)

For PK3 I use IZarc, as it auto-opens this file type without have to rename it to ZIP or open it manually through WinZIP/WinRAR.

ok thanks alot i,ve got all that software stuff already :D. BUt i still need help editing.
I opend the .weap file and looked at the code. So know all i want to do is edit the model, but there a .mdc file? How do i edit these? and then save it to a PK3 file to add to my MOD. What do i got to change on the model's? witch file is used to edit the gun? Do i ned to change a code in a cerstion .cfg file? I need much info as possible and how to a edit to a weapon (or anything eles for the future) from what file to open, what software to use etc. the WHOLE lot from opeining the first file to createing the finshed .PK3 file :P im completley new to this and i cant find a single website or anything to help me..on you people here seem to know :D (i already know how to add mini-mods to my mod folder etc. :p )

*edit* Damn my gtkradient 1.5 cant find any textures. There is no error or anything. Just under textures it has nothing there.? Please help with that.

.mdc and md3 are 3D files of RTCW and QuakeIII.

md3 you can edit with Milkshape

But thats realy difficult.

The best way to understand is ask in the forum of the ETNam Mod.

They have created completely new weapons and models.

Or may you find help on ModDb

Gtk Radiant is for map creating.
If you want to create maps then i suggest you install a fresh new Enemy Territory.
Don´t use your Gaming Enemy Territory!!!

Map editing is difficult too.

You need to convert a .bsp to .map

and much more.

I will make a short video tutorial @ weekend.
